Thay wint oan tae win the league fur the nixt twa consecutive seasons afore becomin the first club tae be promotit tae Division 1, raither than be elecked. Efter finishin mid-table in thir first yeir in the tap flicht, Ayr appointit thir first manager, Herbert Dainty, wha teuk the club tae fowert place afore gangin fur Dundee Hibs in 1915. Lawrence Gemson teuk ower fae Dainty an teuk Ayr tae anither fowert place finish an then tae fifteent an echteent at the heicht o the First Warld War. Efter the war haed finished, Ayr apointit former Parkhoose pleyer an Tottenham Hotspur pleyer-manager John Cameron as thir new manager follaein his release fae a civilian detention camp in Berlin in 1918. Cameron teuk Ayr back ap tae fift in the League afore takin retiral efter ane season. James McDonald replaced Cameron an his fower seasons brocht mair mid-table stability wi three fowerteent an ane tent place finish. Jimmy Hay teuk ower in 1924 an brocht Ayr's first relegation in his first yeir as manager at Somerset Pairk.
