The region is famous for the production o the Bergamot orange. Production maustly is limitit tae the Ionian coastal region o the province o Calabrie in Italy, tae such an extent that it is a seembol o the entire region. Maist o the bergamot comes frae a short stretch o land thare whare the temperatureis favourable. It is cultivatit in Argentinae, Brazil, Turkey an the US state o Georgie an aw, but the quality o the obtained essence is no comparable wi the essence producit frae the bergamots o Reggio due tae the argillite, limestane an alluvial deposits foond thare.
