It lies aboot 90 km wast o Linz an aboot 60 km north o Salzburg, on the border wi the German state o Bavarie. The population in 2001 wis 16,372. Unner the terms o the Treaty o Pressburg, Braunau became Bavarie again in 1809. In 1816, durin reorganization o Europe Efter the Napoleonic Wars, Bavarie cedit the toun tae Austrick an wis compensatit bi the gain o Aschaffenburg. Braunau haes been an Austrian ceety iver syne.

Ootside the biggin in Braunau am Inn, Austrick, whaur Adolf Hitler wis born is a memorial stane remindin futur generations tae remember the past.
