The oreegins o the ceety date back tae the foondin o a monastic establishment on the site o Bangor Cathedral bi the Celtic saunt Deiniol in the early 6t century AD. The present cathedral is a somewha mair recent biggin an haes been extensively modifee'd throughoot the centuries.
