Baalbek (Greek: Ἡλιούπολις; Arabic: بعلبك / ALA-LC: Ba‘albak; Phoenicie: בעלבכ, Baalbak) is a toun in the Beqaa Valley o Lebanon situatit east o the Litani River. It is famous for its exquisitely detailed yet monumentally scaled temple ruins o the Roman period, when Baalbek, then kent as Heliopolis, wis ane o the lairgest sanctuaries in the empire.
