Saban Capital Group an Lionsgate annoonced the pictur in Mairch 2014 [2] Roberto Orci wis oreeginally attached tae produce an Ashley Miller an Zack Stentz war hired tae write the script for the pictur.[3] Orci wad eventually leave the project tae work on Star Trek Beyond.[2] On Apryle 10, 2015, TheWrap reportit that Dean Israelite wis in negotiations tae direct the pictur.[2] Israelite told IGN in an interview that the pictur will be "completely playful, and it needs to be really fun and funny. Actors began testin for the roles o the five Power Rangers on October 2, 2015.[2] On October 7, 2015, Naomi Scott wis cast as Kimberly. Newcomers Dacre Montgomery, Ludi Lin an RJ Cyler war then cast as Jason, Zack, an Billy respectively. At the months' end, Becky G wis chosen tae play Trini. On October 30, 2015, Saban confirmed that the Rangers wad hae the same first names as those on the oreeginal series.[2] When it came tae castin the Rangers, director Dean Israelite said, "From the very beginning, diversity was a very important part of the whole process", an that while the races o the characters war switched aroond, he added that, "we made sure that the essence of each of those characters are who they were in the original show, and this really will be an origin story of those characters.”[2] On Februar 2, 2016, it wis annoonced that Elizabeth Banks wad portray Rita Repulsa in the pictur. Four months later, Bryan Cranston, who voiced Twin Man an Snizard in the oreeginal series, annoonced he wis cast as Zordon.[2] Cranston revealed that he will dae motion-captur an CGI.[2] In September 2016, Walter Emanuel Jones, the actor who played Zack in the oreeginal series, confirmed none o the oreeginal cast wad cameo in the pictur.[2] Towards the end o the month, comedian Bill Hader wis cast as Alpha 5.[2] During a panel at New York Comic Con, it wis confirmed that Goldar wad appear in the pictur.[2][2]
