The anus (frae Laitin anus, meanin 'ring, anus', which is frae Proto-Indo-European *h₁eh₂no-, meanin "ring", "circle")[1][2] is an openin at the opposite end o an ainimal's digestive tract frae the mooth. Its function is tae control the expulsion o faeces, unwantit semi-solit matter produced during digestion. The human anus is the freemit openin o the rectum. Twa sphincters control the exit o faeces frae the bouk during an act o defecation, which is the primar function o the anus.
