Khndzoresk (Armenie: Խնձորեսկ, pronounced [ˈχndzɔɾɛsk]) is a veelage an rural commonty (municipality) in the sooth east o Armenie, in the province (marz) o Syunik. The veelage is locatit tae the richt o Goris - Stepanavan heich-gate, on the steep slopes o Khor Dzor (Deep Gorge), frae which, accordin tae tradition, it got its name. Crossin the brig at the entrance o the veelage, the road continues towards the touns o Lachin an Stepanakert. New Khndzoresk (the current inhabitit aurie) wis biggit in the 1950s. The veelage is locatit at 1580m abuin sea level an occupees 6772,8ha. The Naitional Statistical Service o the Republic o Armenie (ARMSTAT) reportit its population as 2,260 in 2010,[2] up frae 1,992 at the 2001 census.[3]

As o 2009, the population o Khndzoresk comprises 2256, o which 1126 weemen an 1130 men. Thare are 516 hoosehaulds in total. In the end o the 19t century Auld Khndzoresk wis the biggest veelage o Eastren Armenie. In the beginnin o the 20t century the commonty haed 8300 inhabitants (1800 hoosehaulds). In 1913 thare wur 27 shops, 3 dye-hooses, tanneries, 7 schuils. The veelage is famous for takkin pairt in the leeberation muivement o David Bek. The fortress o Khndzoresk servit as a militar base for Mkhitar Sparapet in 1728-1730. In 1735 the veelage wis visitit bi Catholicos (Heid o Armenie Apostolic Kirk) Abraham Kretatsi who gave a thorough description o the commonty in his chronicles. Durin the 1980s, an additional veelage sproutit 7 km frae Khndzoresk due resizin an poleetical unrest. The climate in the community is wairm, relatively humid, wi mild winters. Annual precipitation is 450-700mm.
