Khlong Toei (an aw Klong Toey, Thai: คลองเตย; IPA: [kʰlɔ̄ːŋ tɤ̄ːj]) is a destrict in central Bangkok, lang kent for its slum. It is bordered bi the Chao Phraya River an conteens major port facilities. It is the location o a major mercat an aw, tho no ane o tourist importance.

Neebourin destricts are (clockwise frae the north): Watthana, Phra Khanong, Amphoe Phra Pradaeng o Samut Prakan Province (athort the Chao Phraya), Yan Nawa, Sathon, an Pathum Wan.

The destrict wis ance pairt o Phra Khanong, but on 9 November 1989 it wis separatit intae a new destrict. Oreeginally Khlong Toei consistit o 6 sub-destricts, three o which hae syne left tae shape the new Watthana destrict (annooncit on 14 October 1997, effective frae 6 Mairch 1998).

The aurie haes a history datin back tae the nint hunderyear as a port tae ceeties upstream alang the Chao Phraya River, such as Pak Nam Phra Pradaeng (Thai: เมืองปากน้ำพระประแดง) (as opposed tae the current Amphoe Phra Pradaeng) built durin the King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke period. Khlong Thanon Trong (Thai: คลองถนนตรง) wis a khlong (canal) an a parallel road built bi King Mongkut aroond 1857. Later, it became kent as Khlong Toei an Khlong Hua Lamphong for different sections o the canal. Khlong Toei means the canal o pandan, as the plant grew alang the soothren bank o the canal. The road wis renamit tae Rama IV Road bi King Vajiravudh in 1919. In 1947, a lairge portion of Khlong Toei canal wis filled up tae expand the Rama IV Road surface.
