Friesland (
pronunciation?, Wast Frisie: Fryslân, Dutch: Friesland; Dutch pronunciation: [ˈfris.lɑnt]) is a province in the north o the Netherlands an pairt o the auncient, lairger region o Frisia.
Till the end o 1996, the province bore Friesland as its offeecial name. In 1997 this Dutch name lost its offeecial status tae the Frisie Fryslân. Nevertheless, Friesland remains in common uisage, being the Dutch name for the province.
Friesland haes 646,000 inhabitants (2010) an its caipital is Leeuwarden (Wast Frisie: Ljouwert), wi 91,817 inhabitants, in the center o the province.
