[edit] Spellin

I'm geyan confused by muckle o the spelling on these pages. I dinnae ken gin there's ony need tae spell city as 'ceety',saint as 'saunt' or country as 'kintra'.I cannae mind seeing thaim spellt like that afore. Aiblins I'm frae the wrang pairt o the country but it aw reads like a charicature. It's a gey queer kinna Scots onywey. Herts in the richt place though. —The afore unsigned comment wis added by 86.175.71.213 (collouguecontreibs).

Weel, it's no easy! We uise the Report an Recommends o the Scots Spellin Comatee. Bazza 16:24, 19 Januar 2010 (UTC)
Some fowk uises this an aw. Jimmy 18:44, 19 Januar 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, I jalouse it's a thorny ane. Should it be standardised? If so wha's Scots is the richt Scots? Probably naebody's! Andrew. —The afore unsigned comment wis added by 86.175.71.145 (collouguecontreibs).

Ah hink whit will happen is at fowk will reach a standart as they uise Scots (mibbes twa-thrie standards? Ulster Scots an Doric will mibbes be standarts in their ain richt?). It willnae be richt fir aabody, bit whit can ye dae? Aa we can dae here is tae uise a standart at ithers hae warkt on - the RRSSC. Bazza 10:26, 21 Januar 2010 (UTC)

An what aboot the fowk o' the Border/Mairches? Both pairts o' the border, northren Ingelan an suthren Scotlan hev a similar leid East Lowden an Northumberland an pairts o' Coonty Durham especially. The border has been drawn wrang as far as the leids o' English an Scots kens. It hasna stopped at the border-line. Dee ye think that Northren Inglis an Lallans Scots shud be caad the same leid in the futur? Mebbes its just me bein a muckle prood Borderer but aa think they both shud be (Mebbes Northren leid? or Lawlans Leid? or Mairches leid?).

Shud we no' use the mair common Border spellins at least for Border subjects as the Scots/Northren English leid(s) is/are frae the East Lawlans/Borders/Mairches an Northren Ingland originaly. Mebees we sud use spellins frae the areas that the airtickle is aboot? An standard for the anes aboot Scotland as a haal? Sorry for me unstandard spellins afore ye mooth them! Aethelfrith 18:35, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Or maybe we can use English spelling for English cognates, so that people like me will take less time decoding it? e.g. hindermaist-> hindermost. Saves us lots of trouble for standardisation, and people like me will take less time decoding it. Just joking 110.174.12.47 08:26, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
