Ogíjares is a municipality locatit in the central-soothren pairt o the province o Granada, Spain. Accordin tae the 2005 census (INE), the ceety haes a population o 11877 inhabitants.

Ogíjares is locatit in the centre o a fertile plain, wattered bi irrigation frae the Monachil an Dílar rivers.

Ogíjares haed its oreegins as twa smaw Arab fermin veelages, awtho utensils an interments frae the Visigoths an as far back as the Neolithic hae been foond locally. The name comes frae the Laitin phrase "Hortum Sacrum", which translatit in Arabic became Ortexica, an then Oxijar. Wi the Christian conquest o Granada, the twa veelages became kent as Heich Ogíjar an Law Ogíjar, finally unitit intae wha the day is Ogíjares. Like mony nearbi municipalities, Ogíjares haes become a suburb o nearbi Granada.[1]
