Kavala (Greek: Περιφερειακή ενότητα Καβάλας) is ane o the regional units o Greece. It is pairt o the o East Macedonie an Thrace. Its caipital is the ceety o Kavala. Kavala regional unit is the eastmaist athin the geografical region o Macedonie.

The Pangaio muntains, reachin 1,957 m, are situatit in the wast. The neighbouring regional units are Serres tae the wast, Drama tae the north an Xanthi tae the east. The river Nestos flows alang the eastren border. Arable launds are locatit alang the coastline, in the north an in the east.
The regional unit haes a predominantly Mediterranean climate.

As a pairt o the 2011 Kallikratis govrenment reform, the umwhile Kavala Prefectur (Greek: Νομός Καβάλας) wis transformit intae a regional unit athin the East Macedonie an Thrace region. The prefectur includit the island o Thasos an aw, which became a separate regional unit. At the same time, the municipalities wur reorganisit, accordin tae the table belaw.[1]
