Électricité de France S.A. (EDF; Electricity of France) is a French electric utility company, largely owned bi the French state. Headquartered in Paris, with €71.2 billion in revenues in 2016, EDF operates a diverse portfolio o 120+ gigawatts o generation capacity in Europe, Sooth Americae, North Americae, Asie, the Middle East an Africae.

In 2009, EDF was the world's largest producer o electricity.[4] In 2011, it produced 22% o the European Union's electricity, primarily from nuclear pouer.

Nuclear pouer[eedit | eedit soorce]

Its 58 active nuclear reactors (in Fraunce) are spread oot over 20 sites (nuclear pouer plants). They comprise 34 reactors o 900 MWe, 20 reactors o 1300 MWe, an 4 reactors o 1450 MWe. All are pressurized watter reactors.

In 2017 EDF will take over the majority o the reactor business o Areva, in a French government sponsored restructurin followin financial and technical problems at Areva. In July 2017, Fraunce's Environmental Minister Nicolas Hulot stated that up tae 17 o Fraunce's nuclear pouer reactors — all of which are operated bi EDF — could be shuttered bi 2025 tae meet legislative targets for reducing dependence on the pouer source.
