West Island is the caipital o the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. The population is roughly 120. It is the less populous o the twa inhabitit islands (the ither is Home Island). It wis pairt o the Clunies-Ross plantation an an airstrip wis biggit here durin Warld War II. As well as aw the govrenment biggins, it conteens the airport, a general store an tourist accommodation. In November 2013 it wis revealed that the Australian Signals Directorate operates a listenin station on West Island.[1]
