The wapiti (Cervus canadensis) is a muckle deer hamelt tae North Americae. It is caaed the "elk" i North Americae.

Alces alces wis caaed the "elk" i Eurasie, but disappeared fae the Breetish Isles aboot 1915 BC, an the wird "elk" meant "muckle deer" i the Breetish Isles.[1] The name "wapiti" is fae Shawnee an Cree waapiti, meanin "white rump".
