The Ulster Banner (Inglis: Ulster Banner, Erse: Meirge Uladh), alsae unofficially kent as the or Banner o Northren Ireland (Inglis: Flag of Northern Ireland), is a banner taken fae the former Coat o airms o Northren Ireland, consiestin o a reid cross on a white field, upon whit is a crount sax-pointit star wi a reid hand in the centre. The arms an banner were makit in Dublin Castle bi Major Sir Nevile Wilkinson, Ulster King of Arms, in 1923–1924. The banner is based on the flag of the traditional province of Ulster,[1] wi a Red Hand of Ulster in the middle, an the red de Burgh cross[1] (whiles claimit as Saint George's Cross[2]). It haes a croun til represent the monarchy o the Unitit Kinrick. Insteid o a shield, the Reid Hand is in a six-pointit star, representin the six coonties that mak up Northern Ireland. It is blazont: "Argent a cross gules, overall on a six-pointed star of the field ensigned by an Imperial crown proper a Dexter hand couped at the wrist of the second".
The banner is alsae cried the Ulster banner,[3] the Northren Ireland banner, the (auld) Stormont flag, or the Reid Hand o Ulster banner.[4] Loyalists eften uise "Ulster" as anither name fur Northren Ireland,[5] an Stormont wis the seat o the former Govrenment o Northren Ireland.
