Childishbeat is creating category pages with no content[eedit soorce]

Hi, could you take a look at Special:Contributions/Childishbeat and nuke if appropriate? Thanks. Masumrezarock100 (tauk) 22:42, 22 Dizember 2019 (UTC)

@Masumrezarock100:  Duin Thank you for the heads up (and saving me weeks of cleanup if I didn't notice). I've never actually had to do that before. I gave them a warning, so they will be blocked if they make anymore empty categories. –MJLTauk 22:49, 22 Dizember 2019 (UTC)
Weird case. They seem to have good contributions on enwiki. Masumrezarock100 (tauk) 22:55, 22 Dizember 2019 (UTC)
@Masumrezarock100: They recently did the same thing on enwiki as well, but not in such a massive way. However, on simplewiki, it's the same story as here. MJLTauk 23:04, 22 Dizember 2019 (UTC)

Greetings[eedit soorce]

Thanks for the message on my page. Regards the Trotsky edits I made, most of that is common knowledge. So once I get the hang of editing Wiki and using Scots, I'll get the info back up there. For me it reads like hagiography. And an outline of the ideological differences is essential. Goniga (tauk) 09:49, 28 Dizember 2019 (UTC)

@Goniga: I want you to know I fully support your editing here. It was a really difficult decision whether I should remove that content because the Scots was really solid. I don't want people to ever feel welcomed here, but I'm also trying to improve verifiability on Scotts Wikipedia (a lot of stuff is unsourced).
If you would like improve our coverage of socialist issues, I highly recommend starting by translating works like Voltairine de Cleyre into Scots. It'll give you a better sense of what good articles look more like. Kindest regards, –MJLTauk 15:47, 28 Dizember 2019 (UTC)

Hi, could you empty the category? Some pages are even listed there for more than 7 days. Masumrezarock100 (tauk) 13:16, 17 Januar 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

note re rights[eedit soorce]

Hi. could you please grant me user rights here at this wiki? eg, rollback, etc? I have over ten years experience at editing wikipedia. --Sm8900 (tauk) 23:39, 5 Februar 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

@Sm8900: I appreciate your enthusiasm for contributing to this wiki!
However, I must sadly inform you that we only four user rights on Sco.wiki: rollbacker, autopatroller, IP block exempt, and bot uiser.
I'm pretty selective about who I grant autopatroller unless a person has demonstrated proficiency in both MediaWiki and Scots. I suppose I could grant you rollbacker, but are you sure you really need it? You don't have it on enwiki, so I have to ask. –MJLTauk 00:00, 6 Februar 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
thanks! actually you;re correct, I don't need it. I was unclear as to what it actually meant. no problem, tthat's fine. I've been looking around, and really enjoying this wiki. thanks!!--Sm8900 (tauk) 01:46, 6 Februar 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

I found this article while going through RC. A SWMT member had tagged it for deletion because it looked like "spam". It doesn't look like spammy to me, but the subject doesn't appear to be notable. At least I couldn't find any reliable and independent source when doing a quick BEFORE. So I was wondering if Scottish Wikipedia has any criteria for speedy deletion like A7. Regardless I tagged it for speedy deletion. If it doesn't meet any of the criteria for speedy deletion, could you tell me show me how to nominate it for AFD? Does scowiki have such process of deletion? Masumrezarock100 (tauk) 00:07, 9 Februar 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

Looks like the subject himself is directly editing the article. Masumrezarock100 (tauk) 13:05, 11 Februar 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

@Masumrezarock100: Woops, I didn't respond to your last message. To be honest, I have no clue what to do in a borderline case like this.
@AmaryllisGardener: Could I just delete the page if it isn't notable? What do?
In the meantime, I have semi-protected this page. –MJLTauk 17:52, 11 Februar 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
@MJL: yeah articles like that are obviously not notable and can be deleted. Plus it's in pure English. --AmaryllisGardener talk 18:28, 11 Februar 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

@MJL, AmaryllisGardener: Just wanted to draw your attention to Consumer_Finance. Looks like a list and not an article, wholly written in English without any source whatsoever. Does it qualify for deletion? Masumrezarock100 (tauk) 00:47, 12 Februar 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

@Masumrezarock100: Went ahead and deleted it. 100% cross-wiki spam. --AmaryllisGardener talk 04:09, 12 Februar 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

Define namespace[eedit soorce]

Hi. I've been going through cleaning up after the import. Some updates:

Let me know if there is anything else that I can do to help; I have a tool to easily replace the same text on multiple pages, so moving categories (for example) is pretty simple, but it can do a lot. Hope this helped! --DannyS712 (tauk) 02:25, 27 Apryle 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

Regarding the vote[eedit soorce]

Hi there! I have seen you have put that article up for deletion, after it was suggested so at Meta. I didn't take notice of such request; had I known, I would have commented there. I have no problem with it going up for discussion, but it is kind of upsetting it is being made as an act of retaliation, not yours obviously, but Alexis'. And well... hope you are fine, by the way. --Cuatro Remos (tauk) 06:01, 1 Juin 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

@Cuatro Remos: I saw that you two had a bit of a bad dispute on Commons actually after I agreed to nominate the article. I still figured we could show Alexis our trademarked Scottish hospitality and make the best of it! :D –MJLTauk 06:15, 1 Juin 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
For the record, it might be best if you retract your comment. Not that it isn't appreciated, but I do so badly want to keep that discussion focused extremely strictly on the article in question (can't allow one user to comment on another user if I plan on not allowing said user to respond in kind, etc.) –MJLTauk 06:15, 1 Juin 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
Thanks for replying. I can't modify it now, (I'm off for today) so you are authorized to remove whatever you deem necessary to prevent things from getting messy. However, I think it is important to clarify the retaliatory nature of Alexis's report on Meta. Cuatro Remos (tauk) 06:18, 1 Juin 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
@Cuatro Remos: Thank you yourself! I'll remove it, and then I'll just make sure to note it in my own words. –MJLTauk 06:21, 1 Juin 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
No problem, I am sure you'll do fine. Thanks again. Cuatro Remos (tauk) 06:26, 1 Juin 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

I want to make it clear that I am not pending retaliation, I just did an investigation and I must report the irregularity. Is it a matter of retaliation that the article that was created on Scottish Wikipedia was deleted from everywhere? I'm just doing justice, that article should not exist because it was not listed as relevant to anyone. And I will not allow a user to take advantage of the shortage of rules and people in a language to promote themselves. Whoever who are the user ... I will always punish actions, not names. As the saying goes: "only the good one will understand". Alexismata7 (tauk) 09:32, 1 Juin 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

@Alexismata7 and Cuatro Remos: Let's just all agree to never bring this up again? I've blanked the discussion and the page has been deleted. –MJLTauk 19:44, 1 Juin 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

MJL, nothing ever happened. Alexismata7 (tauk) 19:48, 1 Juin 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

This entire wiki is not in Scots[eedit soorce]

Didn't even realise this wiki existed till I saw it on Reddit - looking through a bunch of the pages almost *none* of it is in Scots? Why has it been edited this way? Are there any native Scots speakers on the Admins for this wiki? PruitIgoe— Precedin unsigned comment addit bi PruitIgoe (talk) 18:11, 25 August 2020‎ (UTC)[Replie]

@PruitIgoe: Basically, no there isn't. There used to be, but people stop editing and retire. However, that can change as soon as a native Scots speaker steps forward to do the work of being an admin. –MJLTauk 18:20, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
@MJL: Then surely the wiki needs to be closed? At the minute this is thousands of pages of massively innacurate content. This will take more than one person to fix? This is the equivalent of the French Wikipedia being written as "Ooh La La, le French Wikipedia"... Honestly, I do not exaggerate when I say this is hugely damaging to our language and efforts to teach people about it.PruitIgoe (talk) 19:28, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
@PruitIgoe: Admins are supposed to block vandals and delete copyright violations. That doesn't require one to be a native speaker of Scots.
However, we are at a crossroads. If this project is closed it will never be reopened. There will never be a Scots Wikipedia in existence again. If you think that is what is best for the Scots language, then so be it.
The ironic part about this is that, in my experience and even if it is poorly written, I still think this wiki has done a lot of good recording topics about Scottish culture. –MJLTauk 18:38, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
Honestly this whole wiki is an act of vandalism against the Scots language.
@MJL: From the sheer volume of pages affected, it'd take far longer to clear up the inaccuracies present in Scots Wikipedia than it would be to simply start over. If that is not possible, better to have no Scots Wikipedia than pass off a load of nonsense as Scots. I can't begin to imagine the effect this has had on the layman's opinion of the language vs. dialect argument.--95.148.175.135 (talk) 18:51, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
There are ways to improve things, but it does take people interested in actually seeing an improvement. Until today, no one really has cared about Scots Wikipedia. It's barely been noticed. (edit conflict)MJLTauk 19:10, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
"AG never asked for this level of public scrutiny" (you said that over on their talk page) is outright false. To spend this much time publicly contributing to a public project, one that’s most of the public’s first and only impression of the Scots language, is literally to put yourself up for scrutiny from those members of the public who happen to be Scottish. It doesn’t really matter that this wiki is a collaborative effort because of just how much of it was put down by this one user, although the fact that there *are* other people complicit in this isn't such a good look either.
"The ironic part about this is that, in my experience and even if it is poorly written, I still think this wiki has done a lot of good recording topics about Scottish culture." This is also nonsense, what effing good is recording information about a culture if it’s in a poor impression of their language (often central to a culture...) that they don’t even recognize?
The wiki needs all of its articles erased, and if that’s not possible, then yes, it needs shut down for good. I agree with all the Scots opining that this project has done more damage to the public’s impression of their culture and language than anything else ever has. No shame at all

— Precedin unsigned comment addit bi 67.171.52.243 (talk) 19:09, 25 August 2020‎ (UTC)[Replie]

You are completely wrong. No one I have ever met in my almost two years of editing Wikipedia projects does this for fame or attention. They do this to try and improve things. Therefore, the attacks on AG for being a brony, autistic, etc. are completely unjustified in my opinion. (edit conflict)MJLTauk 19:16, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
I've just come from the Reddit page about this. As crazy as this situation is, someone has shown enthusiasm and, however misguided, is being attacked. That kind of enthusiasm should be used. We should be asking this member, if they're are at all still interested, to help repair the damage. Point out mistakes that could be fixed by a non-speaker (e.g. 'an aw') and guide them. Don't see anyone else willing to put in the work. 165.225.197.12 (talk)
165.225.197.12, all 'an aw'. 83.219.136.250 (talk) 20:26, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
Oh, "scrutiny" doesn't really make me think of attacks on character but if that's what you meant then sure. I'm not standing up for that. Instead, all I'm saying is that putting your work out in public means you're putting your work (even if ideally not yourself) up for public scrutiny. It isn't really important that editing isn't done for "fame or attention" — the point's that it's public no matter what.
67.171.52.243 (talk) 19:35, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
Like MJL pointed out, if Scots Wikipedia is actually closed down, there will be no "starting over". Getting rid of literally all content and trying to do it all over again will require a Herculean effort. There's a lot more than just article text that will have to be redone, like categories, templates, various technical infrastructure etc. Any content that is actually good will also be flushed down the toilet along with everything else. If there's a lack of interest at this point, it will be impossible to drum up for a "reboot".
I urge you to consider helping the project out instead of calling for its demise. Losing a Wikipedia version is a huge loss for any living language.
Peter Isotalo (tauk) 19:11, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
"Losing a Wikipedia version is a huge loss for any living language", aye this might be true if indeed it were a 'wikipedia version of a living langauge' and not the (borderline racist) gibberish that it is.
— Forerin nae adheebit commend addit bi 2.26.160.36 (talkcontribs) 19:37, 25 August 2020
Okay, yes, there's room for discussion here, but might I say that the fact that the people who are best fit to contribute to a Scots-language Wikipedia aren't historically very interested in a Scots-language Wikipedia means that maybe a Scots-language Wikipedia isn't quite warranted??
I'm not Scottish, so I have no say in whether or not I'd contribute to this, but I've experienced something exactly like this on a much smaller scale from a sister Wiki project (only about a hundred articles) — and trying to go over and fix every single one of those was such a hassle that I resolved to make my contributions on my own, non-Wikimedia-project website. So I can't even imagine how not-worth-it it's going to be to try to fix this one...
67.171.52.243 (talk) 19:35, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
The articles are in non-standard Scots. Do you not see the irony in dismissing it as a joke because it looks a variant of a language you know, and is used by far fewer people? - Shankarsivarajan (tauk) 19:22, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
What are you talking about? Tons of native or near-native Scots speakers have given their word that this is nothing like any kind of Scots that's ever been or ever will be written lol. I trust them, personally
67.171.52.243 (talk) 19:35, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
This whole wiki is completely mental. It's the equivalent of starting a "Chinese" wikipedia and writing a bunch of "wing wong ding dong" nonsense interspersed with random bits of English.
  • People. This is someone's user's page, not a general discussion area. Making so many comments on someone's userpage is purely disruptive and could be interpreted as an attack against the person. Take your comments elsewhere on the wiki. ImprovedWikiImprovment (tauk) 20:34, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
Do you have a suggestion for where? 20:38, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
MJL himself said (in the talk page of the actual editor being discussed) to discuss the issue on this talk page.

There has to be a way to resolve this issue short of completely deleting the Scots-language Wikipedia, perhaps every page which this user has edited should just be reverted all the way back to 2012. Yes there would be a lot of collateral damage and a lot of pages would become little more than stubs, but at least the nonsense would be removed and there would be something there to rebuild. Paraphrased (tauk) 20:44, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

Take this to Wikipedia:Mercat Cross or Wikipedia:Admeenistrators' noticebuird (not sure which is best). ImprovedWikiImprovment (tauk) 20:46, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
There's this: m:Wikimedia_Forum#Scots_Wikipedia_is_largely_not_written_in_Scots. - BirdCities (tauk) 21:20, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
Wikipedia:Mercat Cross would be best because Meta Wikimedia doesn't really have jurisdiction over content pages. –MJLTauk 23:25, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

The solution is to get more people with a good understanding of Scots to help out, fix some pages, write some Manual of Style/guidelines to follow. Admins, who's only additional task is to revert and ban vandalism (with some additional tasks) are very neccesary, but without any dedicated native speakers, we do what we can do. We require more editors, not being destroyed.Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 21:27, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

I agree with Lee, what's needed here is some solid, solidly written guidelines. It's all well and good saying that this project needs improving, but the first step is having 'WP:COMPETENCE' translated into Scots.

The solution *isn't* to close the whole place down, that would be a disastrous loss of knowledge. But it just needs the same early-days policy development English language Wikipedia underwent in the later 2000s - 2010s; more policy, giving admins better powers to enforce it and a sturdier base to lead the project from. -- Ineffablebookkeeper (tauk) 21:34, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

You say deleting Scots Wikipedia "that would be a disastrous loss of knowledge", but it would not because all of the articles exist in English Wikipedia (a language most if not all Scottish people can read) and because most if not all of the Scots Wikipedia is not in Scots, so there is no knowledge either in content or translation to lose. (everchanging IP editer) 2A00:23C6:ED82:E200:C90F:B801:E38:95CC (talk) 03:10, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

I actually have to agree on this one. The actual Scots don't have any use for these articles. Elis Ahlberg (tauk) 05:28, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

A possible place to restart[eedit soorce]

Sorry I don't speak Scots.

I don't see that throwing the whole thing out is much of a solution - but ultimately that should be up to Scots speakers. Just assuming good faith and keep on going doesn't seem to be a solution either.

So one possible route to take: 1) Sort out all the articles where the admin is involved, e.g. all those he created or had the most edits. Likely this could be done by a bot or similar. Place all those in draft space, or just throw them out if that is the consensus. 2) Convince a local Scottish university to hold a really big edit-a-thon or series of edit-a-thons to check and rewrite the drafts, or other articles if they are judged to be in a similar state.

  • perhaps the WMF could be convinced to hire some Scots language experts to set this up and sort it out and decide the best way to go forward. No matter what, this will be a stain on Wikipedia's reputation and a turning point (or end point) in this Wiki. I'd hope the WMF could see their way to doing the right thing, but they'll certainly ask for the community's view of what is "the right thing".

BTW. I've just learned about this and really know nothing yet. But I am the editor-in-chief of The Signpost so I have to write about this (unless there's a top-flight volunteer willing to do so) Sunday publication, Saturday deadline email me. Smallbones (tauk) 02:00, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

(1) The articles in question make up about 49% of the wiki, so it's going to take time.
(2) We're doing something similar already. Though, it's without institutional support.
I could die happy if the WMF did that. –MJLTauk 03:22, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
Has WMF ever hired anyone to 'clean up' articles before? If not, you're going to die mourning. Jake The Great 908 (tauk) 07:39, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
I probably will, Jake. I probably will. –MJLTauk 08:12, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
I don't speak Scots (despite being from a Scottish family), but I agree. This is something that could be scripted and executed in seconds. It seems like the right option is just to bulk-delete their articles and start again. A Scots article on Bundesautobahn 7 is not necessary unless it's done properly. @Blythwood: That type of thing is being discussed over at Metawiki. –MJLTauk 02:12, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

Featurt airticles[eedit soorce]

I have noticed that the FA on the main page has been changed to Robert Burns. Although I am not a Scots speaker, I have heard that this is a good article, and rightly so: after all, the main subject is the national bard of Scotland. In light of this change and recent events, what will be done with the featured articles before August 2020, and will the FA process, page and/or archives on this wiki change? MSG17 (tauk) 00:34, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

@MSG17: I don't know. These are all excellent questions that I can't really think about right now. I will go ahead and make September's FA also Robert Burns though. That will by Scots Wikipedia a month to figure it out. –MJLTauk 01:23, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]
@MJL: Sounds like a good idea. Thanks for putting in the effort as an admin (and for sending the welcome message :) ). I hope the renewed interest and upcoming editathon will help get the wiki to a good point. MSG17 (tauk) 01:53, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

Well except for a weird entry by Wutsje, that we should orientate merely on English Wikipedia and a weird entry of Zoozaz, that.. mhmh we should look what English Wikipedia has to say (what is Wrong with them, there are also other Wikipedias than the English one, and Scots is an own language) of course they had no other arguments, and this is not enough. So you got to Look at the arguments and make the right decision in renaming the article Prayagraj, as it is in the majority of other Wikipedias.. I hope you make the right and fair decision.

Cheers

Abusefilters[eedit soorce]

Hi, do you think Special:AbuseFilter/5 and Special:AbuseFilter/6 still need to be enabled? Perhaps you could change them to tag/warn instead of disallow at least. There are some true positives but also some false positives that could lead to confusion/frustration for new users. Actually, #6 doesn't seem to have a lot of FPs (surprisingly), but #5 does. Hello,

you didn't answer yet, why you support Wutsjes written reason, that only English Wikipedia should be important in deciding how the the article is named in another language and why at all this should be important.

And why German, French, Portuguese, Czech, Italian, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Finnish, Bulgarian, Ukrainian and so on Wikipedias and languages are not important.

I hope you correct the name once and for all to Prayagraj, the discussion never ended on English Wikipedia, there are way too many Hindus and supporters.

--Tecumseh*1301 (tauk) 22:21, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

@Tecumseh*1301: I was getting to it, sorry. However, you should be more patient here. You successfully renamed this article on Catalan Wikipedia, Danish Wikipedia, Greek Wikipedia, Estonian Wikipedia, Croatian Wikipedia, Malagasy Wikipedia, Dutch Wikipedia, Ukrainian Wikipedia, Vietnamese Wikipedia, Cebuano Wikipedia, Finnish Wikipedia, Galician Wikipedia, Hungarian Wikipedia, Serbo-Croatian, and probably others.
I'm still waiting to see what other people have to say (if anything - especially Scots Speakers). For all I know, the article should be renamed Prayag instead. Either way, there just shouldn't be such a rush to rename an article that at most gets 78 page views a month. Let this stuff play out, Tecumseh. smileMJLTauk 23:19, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[Replie]

Alright then, meanwhile I started to help improve here on Scots Wikipedia, well.. we will see how long we wait with Prayagraj, and we will know how long it was by the knowledge of Scots that I will have by then („fowk“ & „sangster“ are interesting words) :)

Well, some included, there I just initiated the process, then there was discussion some contra, mostly pro a a name change and then they changed, some Wikipedias like already had the new name before I got to know about it.

Brig o Dee[eedit soorce]

Hello! I moved the stub that was Brig o Dee to Brig o Dee (brig) yesterday to make way for a disambiguation page between that article and Brig o Dee (clachan). Noticing after my edits that it was slated for deletion, I updated the link on the Kirkyaird page but obviously Cliverbot is going off of some other list and has now done away with the disambiguation page when the content it was initially directed towards persists at Brig o Dee (brig). My thinking is that probably Brig o Dee (brig) should be deleted and Brig o Dee stay dead, since it would be a disambiguation between a redlink and a stub that already has direct links to it. Hey there, as a previous attendee of a Scots Wiki editathon, I thought you might like to know about the December event, Sat 12 & Sun 13th. In addition to the usual wiki support, this month I'm really excited to say that we'll have language support in place from the Scots Language Centre, who'll be online between 12-3 on Zoom on Saturday with us to help with any of your queries.

There are as always jobs that non/lower level Scots speakers can do - articles always need things like citations, categories, wikilinks & images. There's a lot of work like this to be done, and it's all really valuable!

Hope to see you there!Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 13:50, 8 Dizember 2020 (UTC)

(in Inglis) Notification translation[eedit soorce]

Hi, MJL. I recognise your username from en.wikipedia, and I see you're an interface admin here. I've no idea where to ask about this, as it's a combination of translating English to Scots and changing something in the MediaWiki software.

When I received the standard notification for making my first edit here, it was in English: 'You just made your first edit; thank you, and welcome!' This is one of the first things new editors see here, and it should be in Scots. Looking at the translation pages, I think the wording should be 'Ye juist made yer first eedit; thank ye, and walcome!' Might you be able to change it? After the translation's checked, of course. Cheers, BlackcurrantTea (tauk) 01:20, 21 Februar 2021 (UTC)[Replie]

"Ye juist/jist made/makit yer first edit; thanks, an walcome!" or "Ye'v juist duin yer first edit; Cheers, an walcome!" wid be better (Scots haes "ta" but aat seems tae informal fur iss); a'v pit juist/jist an made/makit as baith ar acceptable Scots an the ainly evidence fur eedit is a dictionar aat isna hale reliable CiphriusKane (tauk) 01:40, 21 Februar 2021 (UTC)[Replie]

Categories[eedit soorce]

Hi, am a bit confused by your message. The categories are not blank if you look through my contributions. They've been created incorrectly by other editors and i've fixed them, on the first edit there is a warning that they are blank but on the confirmed edit they are filled, regards Atlantic306 (tauk) 01:43, 23 Februar 2021 (UTC)[Replie]

@Atlantic306: I was referring to creations such as Category:Leids o Honduras which had no content within them. –MJLTauk 01:58, 23 Februar 2021 (UTC)[Replie]
It had one page in it as shown here Category:Leids o HondurasAtlantic306 (tauk) 02:01, 23 Februar 2021 (UTC)[Replie]
@Atlantic306: That's not what I mean. There were pages in the category, yes. However, when you open up the category with the editor you see it contains nothing. Generally speaking, categories should contain other categories. For example, Category:Leids o the Unitit States is sorted into parent categories like Category:Leids o North Americae and Category:American cultur. Per Wikipedia:Categorisation, categories serve to provide a hierarchy of information, so the pages that display a category should have info on it as well as parent categories. (edit conflict)MJLTauk 02:06, 23 Februar 2021 (UTC)[Replie]
I get it now but should red linked categories be removed or left alone? regards Atlantic306 (tauk) 23:57, 4 Mairch 2021 (UTC)[Replie]
@Atlantic306: It depends. If the category is only going to have the single member in it, then I find it more helpful to remove the red-linked category. However, some categories should pretty much always exist like Category:2021 establishments. For those, I would just leave the category alone. –MJLTauk 05:31, 5 Mairch 2021 (UTC)[Replie]
