Turkis Cypriots ([Kıbrıs Türkleri or Kıbrıslı Türkler] error: {{lang-xx}}: text has italic markup (help); Greek: Τουρκοκύπριοι) are ethnic Turks livin in, or oreeginatin frae, Cyprus. Follaein the Ottoman conquest o the island in 1571, aboot 30,000 Turkis sodgers wur gien laund ance they settled in Cyprus,[13][14] Addeetionally, mony o the islanders convertit tae Islam durin the early years o Ottoman rule.[15] Nanetheless, the influx o mainly Muslim settlers tae Cyprus continued intermittently till the end o the Ottoman period.[16] The fact that Turkis wis the main leid spoken bi the Muslims o the island is a significant indicator that the majority o thaim wur either Turkis-speakin Anatolies or itherwise frae a Turkic backgrund[17] which bequeathed a significant Turkish community, today's Turkish Cypriots.
