The thermosphere is the layer o the Yird's atmosphere directly abuin the mesosphere. The exosphere is abuin that but is a minor layer o the atmosphere. Within this layer o the atmosphere, ultraviolet radiation causes photoionisation/photodissociation o molecules, creautin ions in the ionosphere. Takkin its name frae the Greek θερμός (pronoonced thermos) meanin heat, the thermosphere begins aboot 85 kilometre (53 mi) abuin the Yird.[1] At thir heich altitudes, the reseedual atmospheric gases sort intae strata accordin tae molecular mass (see turbosphere). Thermospheric temperaturs increase wi altitude due tae absorption o heichly energetic solar radiation.
