Tekeli (Kazakh: Текелі) is a toun o oblast significance in Almaty Province o sooth-eastren Kazakhstan. Population: 26,062 (2009 Census results);[1] 23,982 (1999 Census results).[1]

Determination an further development o Tekeli stairtit in 1920s when Dzhungar Survey Expedition revealed rich mineral deposits near futur toun location.

In 1927 thare haes began mair structured search for deposits o minerals in Dzhungar Alatau Muntains. The year o 1933 wis prominent for discoverin a deposit o polimetals such as lead, zinc, siller, cadmium an germanium. In 1939 construction o the Tekeli Lead-Zinc Factory wis stairtit. Concurrently development o a dounset wis stairtit for the miners which wad become the futur toun o Tekeli. It wis incorporatit on 29 Januar 1952 bi the decree o Kazakh Soviet Republic Presidium.

Tekeli haes been subject tae conflicts atween the govrenment an Krishna believers in recent years.[2]
