References[eedit | eedit soorce]
- ↑ She wis baptised in 1857, when she wis aboot 12, but the record is missin. A birth date taken frae a certificate o a baptism conductit at the age o 12 would nae be reliable as a primary soorce, an could anly be uised tae corroborate ither evidence. (In The Art of High Drama, a Professor Ockman describes findin an "unidentified newspaper clippin" in the Bibliothèque de la Comédie Française in Paris, which included a copy o a baptismal certificate sayin Bernhardt wis born on 25 September 1844.) It haes been claimed that "Bernhardt sometimes celebrated her birthday on 23 October", althou thare is no verification o this claim. Bernhardt's 1907 autobiography Ma double vie (My Double Life) made no reference tae her date o birth.
