San Andrés is a municipality in the depairtment o El Petén in Guatemala. The municipality is formit bi the toun o San Andrés, locatit on the north-wastren shore o Lake Petén Itzá, an 55 rural commonties, wi a tot population o 20,295 fowk (census 2002).[1]
The municipality wis creatit in 1962 an haes a territory 8,874 km², equivalent tae 25% o the depairtment o El Petén. In the 1990s, mair nor 93% (8,288 km²) o the municipalities territory wis declared protectit natur reserve bi the central govrenment.[2]
