Salah ad-Din al-Bitar (Arabic: صلاح الدين البيطار) (born Damascus 1912, dee'd Paris 21 Julie 1980), wis a Sirie politeecian who, wi Michel Aflaq, foondit the Arab Baa'th Pairty in the early 1940s. Al-Bitar later served as prime meenister in several early Ba'thist govrenments in Sirie, but became alienatit frae the pairty as it grew mair radical, an in 1966 fled the kintra. He lived maist o the rest o his life in Europe, an remained politically active till he wis assassinatit bi unkent fowk in 1980.
