The Ryal Pailace o Riofrío is a pailce built between 1752 an 1759 in Spain. It wis built for Queen Elisabeth Farnese who wis widowed in 1746 bi her husband Keeng Philip V o Spain being succeeded bi Ferdinand VI, her step-son. As such, tae ensure that Elisabeth would remain away frae the coort, Keeng Ferdinand VI agreed tae the construction o a pailace at Riofrío for her own disposal. During the reign o her step-son, the queen resided at the Ryal Pailace o La Granja de San Ildefonso].

The dowager queen haed wanted her son, then Keeng Carlo VIII o Naples tae succeed the Spingie throne. However, before the works were completed, Keeng Ferdinand VI died childless in August 1759 and was thus succeeded bi Keeng Carlo VIII, who was recognised as Keeng Carlos III o Spain. Elisabeth wis creatit regent till her sons arrival in Spain and subsequently resided at the Ryal Pailace o Aranjuez, dying there in 1766 having never lived at Riofrío. Elisabeth haed succeeded in placing four o her children on thrones and intended to give the property tae her youngest son, Infante Luis, Coont o Chinchón, however he did nae use it.

Having been abandoned, it wis completed as a hunting lodge and was only used when royalty hunted in the nearby forests. Maria Josepha Amalia o Saxony resided there to avoid the courts disapproval o her childless mairiage tae Keeng Ferdinand VII. The pailace was also used bi Keeng Francisco, consort o Queen Isabel II to avoid his wife and used later still bi Keeng Alfonso XII, who resided there while mourning his beloved wife Queen Maria de las Mercedes. Points o interest within the pailace include the patio addition, grand staircase, chaipel along with its collection o paintings, tapestries and furniture. It is surrounded bi a vast forest of 625 hectares, home tae deer among other animals. Today Riofrío is the home o a museum dedicated tae the history o hunting.
