Ronald Ross MBE (Born 1975) is an umwhile Scots Shinty player wha played fae Kingussie Camanachd. He is the only player tae score mair than ane thousand goals in the sport.[1] He alsae brak mony ither records as an individual an as pairt o Kingussie's record-brakking first team. He played as a forward.

Ross played in his first Camanachd Cup game in 1992, against The Fort as a substitute. His fathir, Ian Ross, wis manager that dey, an he hadna put him oan the team oot o fear o Nepotism. Howevir, Ross wid prove himsel tae be a valuable player as Kingussie found success in the 90's.

In 2002-2003, the last evir winter season fae Shinty, Ross hailed 94 goals in aw competitions. This wis mair than Kingussie's closest rivals, Newtonmore an the Fort in the league that season. Afore that, his best performance wis 88 goals in the 2001-2002 season.

Ross retired frae International Shinty fae the second time oan the 14th o October 2007, efter helping Scotland beat the Irish Hurlers in The Fort. He finished the 2007 Season, where he helped Kingussie reclaim the Premier League title efter their defeat tae The Fort the year afore. He finished the season wi 72 goals.

In 2008, Kingussie aince again won the Premier Division, howiver Ross received heavy haunded treatment in the Camanachd Cup final against The Fort. He hailed a goal, howiver the Fort went oan tae win the game, efter Ross wis treated roughly bi Adam Robertson.[2]

Ross returned tae Shinty/Hurling in 2009 efter his performance that season,[3] which saw him hail 92 goals, twa aff his previous best. That year Kingussie won the Premiership agin efter a last dey victory ower Kyle Athletic.

In 2010, efter hailing fower goals tae win the MacAulay Cup in extra time, Ross stated that he wid review his playing career at the end o the season.

Ross retired frae Shinty efter winning the Camanachd Cup final in 2014.[4]

Throuchout his career, he hailed mair than 1000 goals. (Excluding goals hailed in reserve shinty) He hailed his 1000th (and 1001st) goal in a MacTavish Cup Semi Final against Lovat oan the 23rd o Mey 2009.

Ross wis made a shinty development officer bi the Camanachd Association.

Recognition

Ross wis appointed Member o the order o the Breetish Empire (MBE) in the 2011 New Years Honours fae his services tae Shinty.[5]

He wis awarded the Glenfiddich Spirit o Scotland Award in 2003 an 2009.

In 2023, Ross wis inducted intae the Scottish Sports Hall o Fame, ane o juist twa Shinty players tae be gien the honour.[4]
