Richmond Castle in Richmond, North Yorkshire, England, staunds in a commandin position abuin the River Swale, near the centre o the toun o Richmond. It wis oreeginally cawed Riche Mount, 'the strang hill'. The castle wis constructed frae 1071 onwirds followin the Norman Conquest o England, an the Domesday Buik o 1086 remits tae 'a castlery' at Richmond.
