A radionuclide (radioactive nuclide, radioisotope or radioactive isotope) is an atom that haes excess nuclear energy, makkin it unstable. This excess energy can be either emittit frae the nucleus as gamma radiation, or create an emit frae the nucleus a new pairticle (alpha pairticle or beta pairticle), or transfer this excess energy tae ane o its electrons, causin that electron tae be ejectit as a conversion electron. During thae processes, the radionuclide is said tae unnergang radioactive decay.[1]
