Background[eedit | eedit soorce]
(Roushie: Петерго́ф, is commonly/historically transliterated intae Roushie as ⟨г⟩ (g), so German Peterhof is transliterated as "Петергoф" Petergof. German for Peter's Coort) is a series o pailaces an gardens located in Petergof, Saunt Petersburg, Roushie, commissioned bi Peter the Great as a direct response tae the Pailace o Versailles bi Louis XIV o Fraunce.Originally intending it in 1709 for country habitation, Peter the Great sought tae expand the property as a result o his visit tae the French ryal coort in 1717, inspiring the nickname used bi tourists o "The Roushie Versailles". The architect atween 1714 an 1728 wis Domenico Trezzini, an the style he employed became the foundation for the Petrine Baroque style favoured throughout Saunt Petersburg. Also in 1714, Jean Baptiste Alexandre Le Blond, likely chosen due tae his previous collaborations with Versailles landscaper André Le Nôtre, designed the gairdens. Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli completed an expansion frae 1747 tae 1756 for Elizabeth o Roushie. The estate wis recognised as a Warld Heritage Steid in 1990. The gairdens are famed for their fountains. Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna o Roushie wis also born here in 1901.
