Pathein (Burmese: ပုသိမ်မြို့; MLCTS: pu. sim mrui., Burmese pronunciation: [pəθèiɴ mjo̰]; Mon: ဖာသဳ, [pha sɛm]), umwhile cried Bassein, is a port ceety wi a 2004 population estimatit at 315,600, an the caipital o the Ayeyarwady Region, Burma. It lees on the Pathein River (Bassein), which is a wastren branch o the Irrawaddy River.[2] Pathein is the fowert lairgest ceety o Burma (Myanmar), situatit 190 kilometre (120 mi) wast o Yangon.
