Origins[eedit | eedit soorce]

The pailace, which also served as a Franciscan friary, wis built during the reign o Keeng John V o Portugal , as consequence of a vow the king made in 1711, tae construct a convent if his wife, Queen Mariana, gave him offspring. The birth o his first dochter the Infanta Bárbara o Portugal, prompted construction o the pailace tae begin. The pailace wis conveniently locatit near ryal hunting preserves, an wis usually a secondary residence for the ryal faimlie.
