Nyuksensky Destrict (Roushie: Ню́ксенский райо́н) is an admeenistrative[1] an municipal[3] destrict (raion), ane o the twinty-sax in Vologda Oblast, Roushie. It is locatit in the northeast o the oblast an borders wi Ustyansky Destrict o Arkhangelsk Oblast in the north, Velikoustyugsky Destrict in the east, Kichmengsko-Gorodetsky Destrict in the sootheast, Babushkinsky Destrict in the sooth, Totemsky Destrict in the soothwast, an wi Tarnogsky Destrict in the wast. The aurie o the destrict is 5,167.42 square kilometer (1,995.15 sq mi).[4] Its admeenistrative centre is the landwart locality (a selo) o Nyuksenitsa.[2] Destrict's population: 9,777 (2010 Census);[5] 11,714 (2002 Census);[9] 13,287 (1989 Census).[10] The population o Nyuksenitsa accoonts for 43.7% o the destrict's tot population.[5]

The major pairt o the destrict belangs tae the basin o the Sukhona an twa o its tributars: the Uftyuga (left) an the Gorodishna (richt). The rivers in the north o the destrict drain intae the Ustya River basin an sicweys intae the basin o the Vaga, a major tributar o the Northren Dvina. Some rivers in the sootheast o the destrict drain intae the Kichmenga an the Sharzhenga, left tributars o the Yug River. The whole destrict belangs tae the basin o the Northren Dvina.
The destrict is amaist completely covered bi coniferous forests (taiga). The exception are the meadaes in the floodplains.

The Novgorod merchants uised the Sukhona River as ane o the main watterweys leadin tae the White Sea an the Pechora. Efter the faw o Novgorod, the aurie became a pairt o the Grand Duchy o Moscow. The veelage o Bobrovy Yam (currently Bobrovskoye) wis mentioned in the chronicles in 1425.[4] Nyuksenitsa wis first mentioned in 1619.[11]

In 1780, the govrenorate wis abolisht an transformit intae Vologda Viceryalty. The latter wis abolisht in 1796, an the pairt o it which includit Nyuksenitsa became Vologda Govrenorate. In 1918, the aurie wis transferred tae the newly establisht Northren Dvina Govrenorate, an in 1924 the uyezds wur abolisht in favor o the new diveesions, the destricts (raions).
Nyuksensky Destrict wis established on 10 Juin 1924 an includit auries o umwhile Solvychegodsky an Velikoustyugsky Uyezds. On 27 Februar 1928, it wis renamit Sukhonsky Destrict. In 1929, Northren Dvina Govrenorate wis mergit intae Northren Krai, an Kokshengsky Destrict wis establisht. On 30 Julie 1931, Sukhonsky an Kokshengsky Destricts wur mergit, an Nyuksensky Destrict wis re-establisht, wi the admeenistrative centre locatit in Nyuksenitsa. In 1935, Tarnogsky Destrict wis split aff frae Nyuksensky Destrict.[8] In 1936, Northren Krai wis transformit intae Northren Oblast, an in 1937, Northren Oblast itsel wis split intae Arkhangelsk Oblast an Vologda Oblast. Nyuksensky Destrict remained in Vologda Oblast iver syne.
