The Nara period (奈良時代, Nara jidai) o the history o Japan covers the years frae AD 710 tae 794.[1] Empress Genmei established the caipital o Heijō-kyō (present-day Nara). Except for a five-year period (740–745), when the caipital wis briefly muived again, it remeened the caipital o Japanese ceevilisation till Emperor Kanmu established a new caipital, Nagaoka-kyō, in 784, afore muiving tae Heian-kyō, or Kyoto, a decade later in 794.
