Maidla (German: Maidel) manor haes a history that goes back tae at least 1452. Durin the Middle Ages, thare wis a fortifee'd manor or a smaw castle on the steid, pairts o which haes been incorporatit intae the eastren touer o the current, later biggin. The current biggin dates frae the seicont hauf o the 18t century, while it receivit its current leuk durin a reconstruction in the early pairt o the 19t century. The interior is characterisit bi its 19t-century decoration sic as a well-preservit neo-renaissance coffered ceilin.[1]

The estate haes belangit tae several local Baltic German airistocratic faimilies throuoot its history, notably the Taube, von Fersen an von Maydell faimilies. Efter the laund reform o 1919, the manor wis gien bi the Estonie state tae the commander o the Dens volunteers in the Estonie War o Unthrildom, Richard Gustav Borgelin, as a rewaird for his services tae the kintra. Syne the 1950's, it haes been an orphanage.[1]

Apairt frae the main manor hoose, the umwhile estate incorporates several still survivin ootbiggins, sic as stables an servants' quairters. An airtificial loch forms a backdrop tae the biggin at the rear.[1]
