MacTavish Cup

The MacTavish Cup is a knock-oot competition i the sport o Shinty. It is competit fae bi senior teams frae the North o Scotland district. It is ane o the five trophies considered tae be pairt o the Graund Slam i the sport o Shinty.[1] The current holders are Kingussie. The competition is sponsored bi W M Donald
Historie
[eedit | edit soorce]The trophy is a rose bowl. The trophy wis first presentit at the first final which took place i 1898 whan it wis won bi Skye Camanachd. The final wis televised fae the first time in 2009 oan BBC Alba, whan the final wis won by Newtonmore. I 2010, the openin roonds o the cup were scheduled fae midweek tae relieve that backlog o fixtures. Owiver, this caused a lot o controversy an Skye Camanchd wrote a letter o complaint tae the Camanchd Association. I 2014 the MacTavish Plate wis established fae teams losing i the first roond. It wis won bi Fort William i a 2-1 victorie o'er Skye.[3]
Ainly 5 teams hae held the trophy twa years in a row. (Innerness, Fort Augustus, Kingussie, Newtonmore an Caberfeidh)
