A lens is an optical device which transmits anrefracts licht, convergin or divergin the beam. A simple lens consists o a single optical element. A compoond lens is an array o simple lenses (elements) wi a common axis; the uise o multiple elements allaes mair optical aberrations tae be correctit nor is possible wi a single element. Lenses are teepically made o glass or transparent plastic. Elements which refract electromagnetic radiation ootside the veesual spectrum are an aa cried lenses: for instance, a microwave lens can be made frae paraffin wax.

The variant spellin lense is whiles seen. While it is leetit as an alternative spellin in some dictionaries, maist mainstream dictionaries dae nae leet it as acceptable.[1][2]
