L'Anse aux Meadows (/ˈlænsi ˈmɛdoʊz/;[1] frae the French L'Anse-aux-Méduses or "Jellyfish Cove") is an airchaeological steid on the northrenmaist tip o Newfoundland in the Canadian province o Newfoundland an Labrador. Discovered in 1960, it is the maist famous steid o a Norse or Viking settlement in North Americae ootside o Greenland.
Datin tae aroond the year 1000, L'Anse aux Meadows is the anly steid widely acceptit as evidence o pre-Columbian trans-oceanic contact. It is notable for its possible connection wi the attemptit colony o Vinland established bi Leif Ericson aroond the same time period or, mair broadly, wi Norse exploration o the Americas. It wis named a World Heritage steid bi UNESCO in 1978.
