Kauaʻi or Kauai[lower-alpha 1] (/kə.ˈw./; Hawaiian: [kɐwˈwɐʔi]) is geologically the auldest o the main Hawaiian Islands.

  1. The spellin wi the ʻokina accent (as "Kauaʻi") indicates syllable "i" wi respelled pronunciation as "cow-Eye" or "cow-a-ee". Sometimes, an apostrophe or grave is uised, as: Kaua'i or Kaua`i.
