Karl II August Christian (Karl August Christian; 29 October 1746 – 1 Aprile 1795) wis Duke o Zweibrücken frae 1775 to 1795. A member o the Palatine House o Zweibrücken-Birkenfeld, a branch o the Hoose o Wittelsbach, he wis the aulder brither o the first Keeng o Bavarie, Maximilian I, an o Queen Amalia o Saxony.
Mairiage[eedit | eedit soorce]
He wanted tae mairy Airchduchess Maria Amalia o Austrick, a dochter o Empress Maria Theresa. He wis weel kent in the Austrick coort, an Maria Amalia wis also in luv with him. However, Maria Theresa deemed him o insufficient rank tae mairy an airchduchess. Moreover, she wanted tae strengthen Austrick's alliance with the Hoose o Bourbon bi mairying tae Ferdinand, Duke o Parma, a grandson o Louis XV. This wis tae be Maria Amalia, due tae the daith o anither dochter, Maria Josepha.
Maria Amalia's aulder brither, Emperor Joseph II, also favoured the mairiage o his sister tae the Duke o Parma, who was the younger brither o his beloved wife, Princess Isabella o Parma. So in 1769, Maria Amalia mairit tae Ferdinand against her will. This decision not anly permanently embittered Charles against the Empress an Austrick but also Maria Amalia against her mither. On 12 Februar 1774, he mairit Princess Maria Amalie o Saxony
