James David Forbes FRS FRSE FGS (1809–1868)[1] wis a Scots physicist an glaciologist that did extensive wirk on heat conduction and seismology. Forbes bidit in Edinburgh fur the feck o his life, eddicate at its University an a professor there frae 1833 until he became principal o the United College of St Andrews in 1859.
He inventit the seismometer in 1842.[2]
