James Ballantyne Hannay FRSE(1855–1931) wis a Scots chemist that believed he haed synthesized diamond in 1880. Houiver, modren testin shawed that the survivin saumples frae his experiments war naitural diamond, nae synthetic. While his techniques war conducive tae diamond formation, modren diamond production – nae achieved till the 1950s – requires capabilities nae available in Hannay's time.[1] Hannay wis an aa kent for makin precision instruments.[2]
