Irenaeus (Greek: Εἰρηναῖος) (late 2nt century – died c. AD 202), an aa referred tae as Saunt Irenaeus, wis Bishop o Lugdunum in Gaul, then a pairt o the Roman Empire (nou Lyon, Fraunce). He wis an early Kirk Faither an apologist, an his writins war formative in the early development o Christian theology. A resident o Smyrna, he heard the preachin o St. Polycarp,[1] a disciple o St. John the Evangelist.[2]
