Javelin thrower an Olympic hopeful Ásdís Hjálmsdóttir wis Iceland's first female banner bearer at the openin ceremony syne 2000.

Iceland, houiver, failed tae win a single Olympic medal in Lunnon, efter the men's naitional handball team, siller medallists frae Beijing, lost tae Hungary in the quarterfinal roond. Meanwhile, Hjálmsdóttir, who qualified for the final roonds o the women's javelin throw event, finished farther frae the staundins.
