Hyunmoo-3 is a new cruise missile that is tae be fieldit with the militar of Republic o Korea. It is designed by Agency for Defense Development (ADD). The name Hyunmoo (Hangul: 현무) comes frae a mythical beast describit as the "Gairdian of the Northren Sky", perhaps hinting North Korea.

As a signatory of the multilateral Missile Technology Control Regime, Sooth Korea agrees to refrain frae importing a non-indigenous ballistic missile with a warheid lairger than 500 kg, or a range of more than 300 km. In addition, a bilateral agreement between ROK and USA limits indigenous Sooth Korean produced missiles nae nae muir than 500 miles in range, and warheids nae lairger than 1,100 lbs. (In September 2017, the preses of the ROK and the USA agreed “in principle” tae lift these bilateral leemits, increasing the possibeelity of a langer-range, mair powerful Hyunmoo-4 in the future.) Therefore, a heivy emphasis wis put on developing lang-range cruise missiles by the Sooth Korean govrenment. With the introduction of Hyunmoo-3, which awso haes some advanced seestems sometimes foond on ICBMs[citation needit], the Republic o Korea Airmy creautit the Missile Command in order tae efficiently manage these missiles.
Hyunmoo-3 bears nae resemblance tae the previous Hyunmoo SSM, which were impruived versions of Nike Hercules surface-tae-air missiles that were convertit intae short-range heich-speed surface-tae-surface ballistic missiles in response tae North Korea's Scud-B and Nodong-1 missile threats. Instead, the new missile's designs are strikingly similar tae the Unitit States Tomahawk cruise missile. It is pouered by a turbofan engine, and haes a maximum payload of 500 kilograms (1,100 lb) of conventional explosive. The guidance seestems conseest of Inertial guidance system and Global Poseetioning Seestem.
Hyunmoo-3A, which wis nicknamed "Eagle-1" (독수리-1) during the testing, haes a range of 500 km, while Hyunmoo-3B, nicknamed "Eagle-2" (독수리-2) Tianlong (천룡 순항 미사일), haes a range of 1,000 km. Hyunmoo-3C, or "Eagle-3" (독수리-3), will be capable of striking its target up to 1,500 km away. This is a significant improvement frae Hyunmoo I which haed a range of 180 km and Hyunmoo-2A, which only has a range of 300 km, baith of which were ballistic and nae cruise missiles.
