Guìlín (Cheenese: 桂林; Zhuang: Gveilinz) is a prefectur-level ceety in the northeast o the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Fowkrepublic o Cheenae, sittin on the wast bank o the Li River. Its name means "forest o Sweet Osmanthus", owin tae the lairge nummer o fragrant Sweet Osmanthus trees locatit in the ceety. The ceety haes lang been renawned for its unique scenery o Karst topografie an is ane o Cheenae's maist popular tourist destinations.[1]

In 314 BC, a smaa dounset wis established alang the banks o the Li River.
In 111 BC, durin the reign o Emperor Wu o the Han Dynasty, Shi An Coonty wis established, which coud be regardit as the beginnin o the ceety.
In 507 AD, the toun wis renamed Guizhou.
Guilin prospered in the Tang an Song dynasties but remained a coonty. The ceety wis an aa a nexus atween the central govrenment an the soothwast border, an it wis whaur regular airmies wur placed tae guard that border.
