A gamete (frae Auncient Greek γαμετή gamete frae gamein "tae marry"[1]) is a cell that fuses wi anither cell during fertilisation (conception) in organisms that sexually reproduce. In species that produce twa morphologically distinct teeps o gametes, and in which each individual produces anly ane teep, a female is ony individual that produces the lairger teep o gamete—cried an ovum (or egg)—an a male produces the smawer tadpole-lik teep—cried a sperm.
