English: According to the Sphynx Fine Art Gallery's description, the person depicted is a Wakhi guide of T.E. Gordon's expedition. The lake is now known as Zorkul. The painting is also reproduced (probably in black-and-white only) on p. 155 of T.E. Gordon's book, The Roof of the World (1876)
