Descreeption
Deutsch: Sie war die jüngere Schwester von Elisabeth Auguste von Bayern. Maria heiratete im Jahre 1746 Friedrich Michael von Pfalz-Birkenfeld (1724–1767). Ihr Sohn Maximilian I. (1756–1825) wurde später König von Bayern. Allerdings erlebte sie den Aufstieg ihrer Familie nicht mehr. Die Beziehung zu ihrem Mann war seit 1760 gescheitert. Nach ihren eigenen Angaben wurde sie "durch das üble Beispiel des von ihr verachteten Hofes" verführt, eine Beziehung mit einem Mannheimer Schauspieler einzugehen. Als sie schwanger wurde, entfernte man sie vom Hof. In Straßburg gebar sie einen Sohn und wurde dann quasi in Klosterhaft gesteckt; zunächst bei Ursulinen in Metz und dann zu den Augustinerinnen zu Bonnevoye im Herzogtum Luxemburg. Nach dem Tod ihres Mannes 1767 durfte sie auf Schloss Sulzbach ziehen. Sie starb im Jahre 1794 und fand in der Pfarrkirche zu Sulzbach ihre letzte Ruhestätte. Ihr Herz wurde getrennt bestattet und befindet sich seit 1983 in der Gnadenkapelle von Altötting.
