Español: Bandera Municipal de Palencia (Castilla y León): Nada cierto hay sobre los orígenes de la bandera morada de Palencia. El morado, o mejor el violado o púrpura, era un color usado frecuentemente para distinguir posesiones y servidores de altas dignidades, seglares o eclesiásticas y quizás lo emplearan como estandarte las guarniciones y tropas costeadas y dirigidas incluso por los obispos palentinos. Es posible que sirviese también de distintivo de alguna de aquellas facciones que participaron en la guerra de las Comunidades (siglo XVI) o más probablemente en los regimientos palentinos y castellanos que tomaron parte en la Guerra de Sucesión a principios del siglo XVIII. Lo que explicaría su difusión emblemática en la Meseta Norte.
