Fidelio (oreeginally named Leonore, oder Der Triumph der ehelichen Liebe; Inglis: Leonore, or The Triumph o Mairital Luve),[1] Op. 72, is a German opera wi spoken dialogue bi Ludwig van Beethoven, his anly opera. The German libretto wis originally prepared bi Joseph Sonnleithner frae the French o Jean-Nicolas Bouilly an the wirk premiered at Vienna's Theater an der Wien on 20 November 1805. The next year de (Stephan von Breuning (librettist); Stephan von Breuning) helped shorten the three acts tae twa. Efter further wirk on the libretto bi Georg Friedrich Treitschke a final version performed at the Kärntnertortheater on 23 Mey 1814. Bi convention baith o the first twa versions are referred tae as Leonore.
